e-roule pilot project

An electrifying project for driving schools and student drivers!

This project to electrify the automobiles of driving schools in Quebec lets student drivers take their practical driving lessons on fully electric cars, while also offering personalized support and financial aid to participating schools.

e-roule’s main goals:

  1. Replace 150 gas-powered cars with fully electric cars in all participating driving schools, and thereby reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
  2. Use driving lessons to educate student drivers and the people they know about the advantages of electric vehicles.
  3. Develop a viable economic model for driving schools wanting to transition to electric cars.

Quebec’s ministry of transport has entrusted the management of this project to the FQESR. A total of 100 driving schools of all sizes, from 15 different regions of Quebec, were selected, and most now offer e-driving classes.

In addition to reducing greenhouse gases (GHGs), the use of electric vehicles during driving lessons will lay a solid foundation for young drivers to be aware of the benefits of driving electric.

The goal is to encourage Quebec’s future drivers to prefer electric vehicles for getting around and to choose an electric vehicle the next time they buy or lease. The project also includes a communication component that will let thousands of young people know about the government’s incentive programs to transition to electric transportation.

In 2021 and 2022, awareness-raising campaigns were deployed in the media. Comedian Danick Martineau, a youth favorite, was selected as the headliner for 7 informative videos and 4 comedic videos, broadcast on social media and on the project’s website.

The $4.5 million project is funded by Quebec’s ministry of transportation with funds that come under a measure of the 2013-2020 Climate Change Action Plan.
